Moisture-resistant or waterproof?

Consider the complete construction: panel, finish, edges, cut-outs and conditions of use.

HMR is not waterproof

HMR indicates increased moisture resistance. It does not mean a panel can stand in water or remain wet. Check the technical guidance for the specific board.

Protect the entire perimeter

Agree protection for every exposed edge, including hidden edges, sink cut-outs and pipe openings. Edge banding reduces exposure but does not make furniture flood-proof. After a leak, remove standing water and have swollen parts and joints assessed before reuse.

Specify each material

Record the cabinet, front and worktop materials separately. HMR alone does not describe the board thickness, surface finish or furniture construction.

Check before ordering

  • Where can water reach the furniture?
  • How are edges, joints and cut-outs protected?
  • What does the material manufacturer recommend?
Can moisture-resistant furniture be used in a bathroom?

It depends on the material, construction and position. Show us the shower, basin and pipes so we can discuss protection from direct water exposure.
